Biography

Dr. Berkowitz, a practicing internist, supervised his group's implementation of an electronic medical record. He has been prescribing electronically for more than a decade, and has been a pioneer in many areas of medical informatics. His consulting firm works with healthcare systems, pharmaceutical companies, IT vendors and others in fields such as EMRs, e-prescribing, physician and consumer health portals, and physician adoption strategies. He's also served as medical director for several small health-care consulting and technology firms. An Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Northwestern University Medical School, Dr. Berkowitz has also given dozens of presentations and authored or co-authored many papers on such topics as electronic prescribing, EMR implementation, the use of Web portals, physician Web sites, mobile and wireless computing, and the impact of the Internet on clinical trials.
