Biography

Mary K. Buss, MD, MPH is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) /Harvard Medical School in Boston. Clinically, she practices both as a medical oncologist, specializing in gynecologic malignancies, and a palliative medicine specialist at BIDMC. She opened and now directs the BIDMC outpatient palliative care clinic, staffed by a multi-disciplinary team. Her scholarly work focuses on improving the integration of palliative care into the care of patients with cancer and other serious illnesses. She is developing and studying different models for delivering palliative care on patient outcomes. The Hastings Center Cuniff Dixon Foundation recently honored Dr. Buss as one of five physicians recognized for providing outstanding care for patients near the end of life and specifically commended her for having ‘altered the perception of palliative care within the institution.
