Biography

Dr. Sherin U. Devaskar, MD, is Professor of Pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She is the Executive Vice Chair, Department of Pediatrics and Director of the Neonatal Research Center. Dr. Devaskar is the Program Director of the Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship Training Program and Program Director of the UCLA Child Health Research Career Development Award, both funded by the National Institutes of Health. Her research interests are in the area of perinatal/ neonatal metabolism and its influence on the brain and adult phenotype. She is the Principal Investigator on four R01 grants and one T32 training grant supported by the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Devaskar has authored over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Devaskar has a particular interest in academic development and serves on multiple UCLA, national and international committees including the Pediatric Academic Societies and the American Pediatric Society. She is the President of the American Pediatric Society (2009-2010) and serves on the National Advisory Child Health and Human Development Council, National Institutes of Health. Dr. Devaskar is the Editorin- Chief of the Pediatric Research journal and is an editorial board member of the American Journal of Physiology – Endocrinology and Metabolism.
