G. Michael Felker, MD, MHS, is the director of heart failure research at the Duke Clinical Research Institute, professor of medicine and chief of the heart failure section at the Duke University School of Medicine, and fellowship director, advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology at Duke. He is the associate editor of JACC’s Heart Failure and co-editor of Heart Failure, a Companion to Braunwald’s Heart Disease. Dr. Felker earned his medical degree from the Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina where he also acquired his MHS in clinical research. He served his residency and cardiology fellowship at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland, with a second fellowship in cardiology at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Felker’s research focuses on the overlap and interaction between heart failure and diabetes, two major challenges at the basic, translational, clinical research, and population science level. He has had a leadership role in several national and international research trials including GUIDE-IT, DOSE-AHF, RELAX-AHF, TACTICS-AHF and ASCEND-HF and is the principal investigator for several NIH heart failure clinical trials. Dr. Felker is published in over 200 peer-reviewed articles and is the recipient of multiple awards, including the Robert M. Califf Award for Excellence in Clinical Research.
