Biography

JoAnne M. Foody, MD, is Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Cardiovascular Wellness Center at Brigham and Women’s/Faulkner Hospitals in Boston. Dr. Foody completed college at Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey and medical school at the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine in Chicago, IL. She received her postgraduate medical education and training in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts and her additional training in cardiovascular medicine and preventive cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to joining the Harvard Faculty, Dr Foody was an Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of the Cardiovascular Training Program at Yale University School o f Medicine prior to joining Brigham and Women’s. Dr. Foody has an active role in inpatient care and cardiovascular research and mentors medical students, residents and fellows, with emphasis on strengthening cardiac disease prevention and rehabilitation. Her research has focused on identifying and fostering greater use of clinical strategies that prevent adverse cardiovascular events in people with and without coronary artery disease. Dr. Foody also has had leadership roles on the National AMI and National Heart Failure projects of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, a Presidential Blue Ribbon Panel to improve cardiovascular care within the Veteran’s Administration, the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology. She serves on the Board of the National Lipid Association and the World Heart Federation. She is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. An international expert in Preventive Cardiology, Dr Foody is the author of multiple peer-reviewed articles, chapters and texts including an authoritative text, Preventive Cardiology: A Companion to Braunwald’s Heart Disease. She serves as Editor-in-Chief of the ACC’s Cardiosmart.org.
