Biography

Dr. Frank earned her M.S.W. from the University of Michigan and practiced as a psychiatric social worker for nine years prior to entering medical school. After earning her medical degree from Michigan State University, College of Human Medicine she completed her psychiatry residency training at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston where she was chief resident in Primary Care Psychiatry. Dr. Frank worked at Henry Ford Health System for 19 years in a variety of positions, including Residency Training Director, Director of Psychiatric Education and Director of Forensic Psychiatry. Dr. Frank’s last position at Henry Ford was that of Director of Outpatient Psychiatry. In addition to these duties, Dr. Frank had ongoing research grants and a clinical practice, specializing in mood disorders. She is the author of suicide prevention guidelines which were awarded JCAHO’s highest honor, the Codman Award in addition to the American Psychiatric Association’s Gold Award. Dr. Frank is certified in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and has developed training programs in CBT. In October 2009, Dr. Frank joined the faculty of the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She serves as Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Frank is a well-known speaker in the areas of mood disorders, suicide and violence prevention, ADHD, and women and mental health.
