Biography

Dr. Smiley completed her Endocrinology Fellowship at Emory and subsequently received her Master of Science in Clinical Research degree from the Emory Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. She currently serves as a staff endocrinologist at Northside Hospital and is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to providing direct patient care for the past 12 years, she has been involved in academic teaching and clinical research. In the past few years, Dr. Smiley has also served as a co-investigator in several research protocols supported by the Emory University School of Medicine/Grady satellite General Clinical Research Center that concentrate on the management of patients with ketosis-prone diabetes, inpatient and outpatient hyperglycemia/insulin protocols and the pharmacoeconomic impact of inpatient diabetes management. Dr. Smiley has been productive publishing original manuscripts and text chapters, including the 2014 American Diabetes Association’s Greenbook chapter on perioperative glycemic management, presenting at scientific meetings and teaching physicians, nurse practitioners and ancillary staff. Outside of the office, she serves as a board member and elected treasurer for the Georgia AACE Chapter and is an Advocacy Team member for the American Diabetes Association.
