Biography

Dr. David Sugarbaker is Professor and Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and Bay lor St. Luke's Medical Center. He is the Olga Keith Weiss Chair of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and the Director of newly formed Lung Institute. Dr. Sugarbaker is known as a pioneer in the field of mesothelioma and has pioneered the technique of extrapleural pneumonectomy and its application to patients with mesothelioma. He has developed innovative multimodality therapies and directed translation research programs in this disease that are known worldwide. New approaches to the treatment of cancer and his technique of esophageal removal for cancer have been adopted worldwide. Dr. Sugarbaker has published extensively with more than 200 original papers and over 70 textbook chapters. He had edited a textbook on thoracic surgery titled "Adult Chest Surgery" and this first edition claimed several awards. The 2nd edition of "Adult Chest Surgery" was published in mid-January of 2015 and the 3rd edition is now being edited and will be published in 2018.
