Assessing Statin Therapy: What are Their Differences?
Learning Objectives:
- Recognize statin drug interactions and select appropriate therapies that will not carry an increased risk of adverse events.
- Apply evidence-based clinical study data into practice that demonstrates statins’ ability to modify both LDL-C and HDL-C to optimize drug selection.
- Evaluate the available safety data concerning statins, proteinuria, hyperglycemia, and dose reduction requirements in patients with kidney failure and apply this knowledge to therapeutic risk/benefit analysis.

Learning Objectives:
- Discuss the role of the kidney in glucose homeostasis
- Describe the contribution of the kidney to the sustained elevated glucose levels observed in individuals with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes.
- Explain the mechanism of action of therapies that act through the kidney to reduce hyperglycemia in type 2 diabetes
- Assess clinical efficacy and safety data, and identify the potential place of therapies that target the kidney in the management of type 2 diabetes

Learning Objectives:
- Prevent COPD exacerbations by recognizing the clinical factors that put patients at risk by improving early recognition and intervention
- Stratify COPD severity and develop individualized treatment plans on the basis of spirometry results
- Tailor both initial and maintenance therapies for COPD according to the standards set by evidence-based guidelines

A Patient-Centered Approach to the Management of Depression: Achieving and Maintaining Remission in the Primary Care Setting
Learning Objectives:
- Outline the social and economic impact of depression and related comorbidities in the United States.
- Define optimal outcomes in major depressive disorder as compared to suboptimal response and examine the impact of failing to achieve remission on patient outcomes.
- Evaluate measurement-based care, specifically the APA guidelines, and strategies for implementation in practice to address unmet clinical needs of patients with depression when initial antidepressants are insufficient.
- Using a case-based approach, apply clinical data and guideline recommendations to the clinical care of patients suffering from depression and formulate appropriate and effective treatment plans.

Type 2 Diabetes - Role of Insulin-Based Therapy
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the pathophysiology of T2DM and its practical implications for multi-organ disease mandating early recognition and treatment
- Conduct an initial and ongoing assessment of A1C, fasting blood glucose, and postprandial blood glucose to achieve tight glycemic control, with appropriate referral when necessary
- Evaluate the mechanisms and clinical profiles of insulin formulations, addressing dosing regimen, patient age, ethnicity, and other determinants of individualized care
- Collaborate with endocrinologists, cardiologists, nurse practitioners, dietitians, diabetes educators, and other care providers to formulate and implement a comprehensive treatment that includes pharmacologic as well as lifestyle interventions
- Educate patients on the causes, symptoms, and risks associated with hypoglycemia and implement new models of care to overcome patient and system barriers to therapeutic regimen adherence
