Clinical Perspectives in Diabetes: Risk Reduction Approaches and Treatment Priorities
Glycemic control is the foundation of effective diabetes care, and studies suggest that intensive efforts to control blood sugar can alleviate the health consequences of diabetes, at least for individuals who have not yet developed serious comorbidities. Primary care physicians, as frontline clinicians, are best positioned to recognize and manage risk factors for diabetes as well as patients with pre-diabetes or diabetes in their patient populations. This session will assess the complexities of dysglycemia as well as clinical strategies in primary care for patients not at glycemic target goals based on comparison of risks, benefits and utility of montherapy and combination therapy with antihyperglycemic agents in affecting adherence and glycemic control.
CLOSE  X
Obesity: New Insights and Evidence on Intervention Strategies
National survey data indicate that the incidence of diagnosed diabetes in the United States has increased rapidly and that obesity is a major contributor to the increased risk of morbidity and mortality associated with diabetes and related cardiovascular complications. Life-style modifications and therapeutic interventions have been demonstrated to have positive impact on obesity. This session will provide for the evidence related to the benefits and risks associated with these interventions as well as patient-oriented clinical tools that primary care clinicians can use in their practice to improve patient outcomes.
