Biography

Joan Bardsley MBA, RN, CDE, FAADE is a Joslin trained RN, Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) with over 35 year of experience in diabetes education and management. She has an in-depth knowledge of the issues that face both the person with diabetes and his/her health care provider as they seek to achieve optimal patient health and wellness. Her experience includes direct diabetes self management education (DMSE), professional education for multidisciplinary teams, advocacy for access to and reimbursement for DSME, clinical trial management and executive administration as Assistant Vice President of the MedStar Health Research Institute which supports research within a 10 hospital health system. As the Past President of the American Association of Diabetes Educators, she is a subject matter expert in the knowledge and support that is needed by persons with diabetes to self manage their disease. At MHRI she has expertise in assessing outcomes of DSME and the value it brings to improve health. She has served as co-investigator for diabetes management research through the MHRI clinical research. In addition she is responsible for Nursing Collaborative Governance Councils for MedStar Corporate Nursing.
