Biography

Besides serving as medical director of the 3,000-physician Rochester IPA, Dr. Beckman practices internal medicine part-time and is a clinical professor at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. In his IPA post, Dr. Beckman has focused on creating an effective partnership with Excellus Blue Cross BlueShield, which contributes most of the IPA's business. The organizations have agreed to share data, create transparent physician profiling reports, gain share on cost savings and most recently, develop pay for performance programs. Dr. Beckman is also a Co-Principal Investigator on one of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Rewarding Results grants. In that capacity, he has had the opportunity to study how a pay for performance program for both generalists and specialists influences the cost and quality of care.
