Biography

Born and raised in Georgia and South Carolina, Dr. Candler returned to the South for her medical training and currently practices as a general academic internist in primary care at Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, TX, one of the highest volume and highest complexity VA hospitals in the country. She is also an assistant professor of medicine for Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Candler completed medical school at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where she pursued both her MD and her Masters in Public Health (MPH), with a focus on Health Policy and Management. She finished internal medicine residency the primary care track at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. In addition to her clinical practice and academic responsibilities, Dr. Candler also serves on the American College of Physicians' Board of Regents as their Chair of the Council of Resident/ Fellow Members and is an editor of the Annals of Internal Medicine blog, "Fresh Look."
