Biography

Dave deBronkart, known on the internet as "e-Patient Dave," survived Stage IV kidney cancer (median survival 24 weeks) by being highly engaged in his own care, in partnership with his clinicians, and has gone on to become a global activist for participatory medicine, transforming the patient’s role from dependence to partnership. A co-founder and chair emeritus of the Society for Participatory Medicine, he has spoken at or participated in 600 conferences and policy meetings in 19 countries. Although he has no graduate degree, he was the Mayo Clinic’s 2015 Visiting Professor in Internal Medicine, has written nearly 1500 blog posts, and serves on the BMJ editors’ patient advisory panel.
