Biography

Dr. Flaherty is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He received his medical degree with honors from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa and a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of Chicago. He joined the faculty at the University of Chicago in 1988 and moved to Northwestern University in 2001 where he is Professor of Medicine, Associate Chief and Clinical Practice Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases and Director of the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Training Program. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the Infectious Diseases Society of America. He has served as president of the Association of Specialty Professors and member of the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Academic Medicine. He has co-authored over 50 publications and has given numerous presentations.
