Biography

Dr. Melanie Hoenig is a nephrologist at BIDMC and Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Hoenig is the course director for Homeostasis 2 (renal, endocrine, and GI physiology and pathophysiology) a required course for all Harvard Medical and Dental students in the Pathways curriculum. Dr. Hoenig is the renal section editor for Knowledge +, a board review product from the NEJM group and the new editor for the Core Curriculum Feature of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases. She recently served as the chair of the American Association of Clinical Chemistry’s eGFR and Race Equity Task Force which has endorsed new formulas to estimate kidney function without race. Her clinical interests are kidney disease in the context of HIV and the transition to adult care for young people with kidney disease.
