Scott V. Joy, MD, MBA, FACP

Professor of Clinical Practice, University of Colorado School of Medicine, Aurora, CO

Scott Joy, MD, MBA, FACP, is currently a medical director with The Colorado Health Foundation and Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center and a Professor of Clinical Practice at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver, Colorado. A native of western Pennsylvania, he is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr Joy was an internist and Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke University Health System in Durham, North Carolina for 15 years prior to moving to Colorado and served as a practice and managed care medical director at Duke. He remains active in health policy, and has served as national chairperson for the Society of General Internal Medicine Clinical Practice Subcommittee of the Health Policy Committee, advocating at the national level on issues related to practice redesign and payment reform for the delivery of clinical services. He is actively engaged in resident and medical student education at the University of Colorado, with a particular focus on teaching principles of the Patient Centered Medical Home, including high-value, cost-conscious care, population health management, and team-based care, and led efforts for his practice to be certified as a Level III PCMH. He is currently involved in initiatives within the state of Colorado related to transitions of care, access to specialty care via telemedicine, integration of alternative/complementary medicine, and the application of digital health technologies into clinical practice. His research interests include diabetes management, digital health and clinical practice innovations.
