Dr Martinez is a graduate of the University of Florida College of Medicine who completed pulmonary training at Boston University. He was associate division chief of pulmonary at the University of Michigan. Since 2013, he has been a physician-scientist in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College. He has a long standing interest in the investigation of the biological underpinnings and therapeutic implications of COPD including: (1) the PI of numerous NHLBI sponsored studies [National Emphysema Treatment Trial (NETT), the COPD Clinical Research Network (CRN), the Long Term Oxygen Treatment Trial (LOTT), COPDGene, and the Long Tissue Research Consortium (LTRC)]; (2) co-PI of an R01 examining the microbiota in chronic bronchitis treated with roflumilast bo longitudinally over a 16 week period; (3) contact PI of CAPTURE COPD Case Finding methodology for the primary care setting; (4) co-PI of the initial NHLBI study defining the pathological and clinical implications of imagining metrics of small airways; (5) member of the steering committee of numerous sentinel industry therapeutic trials.
