This talk will review the pathophysiologic mechanisms of pain and how to best address them. *The session "Cases in Treating Chronic Pain: Best Approaches to Management" is designed to help satisfy a CME requirement of the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure related to HB 1, for all physicians authorized to prescribe or dispense controlled substances in KY.

Learning Objectives

Identify mechanisms causing painful conditions commonly encountered in primary care

Detail the role for non-opioid analgesics and other modalities for pain treatment

Review the current armamentarium for pain and assess efficacy and risks

Construct a multi-modal pain management plan for patients with persistent pain
