Creating Health Equity in Pain Management: Strategies for Bridging the Gap
Description
This 1-hour session will focus on race and ethnicity related to acute and chronic pain, treating, and managing-associated issues for African Americans; improving healthcare delivery by emphasizing patient-centered care and cultural competence; and providing academic support services for primary care clinicians. These sessions will address some of the greatest challenges in rural and underserved communities.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss the definitions and mechanisms of pain
- Anticipate and manage adverse effects of opioid use including signs of opioid overdose and the use of naloxone
- Act appropriately to evaluate, treat, or refer patients with opioid use disorder
