Description
Irritable bowel syndrome with constipation is a common disorder seen by primary care clinicians that can be diagnosed on the basis of clinical symptoms without extensive testing. As an integrative disorder, IBS-C requires integrated care that incorporates dietary modification, behavioral treatment, and pharmacologic therapies. This activity is designed to help primary clinician care physicians effectively diagnose and manage patients with this common condition.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the burden of IBS-C on patients and the healthcare system
- Apply symptom-based criteria to the diagnosis of patients with suspected IBS-C
- Effectively communicate with patients to assess symptom control and identify the need for treatment modification
- Design and personalize effective treatment strategies for patients with IBS-C based on current evidence, clinical guidelines, and patient needs
