The session "Pain Management in Primary Care: Translating Principles into Practice - Part 2 (1.0 credit) is designed to satisfy CME/CE requirements related to risk management, pain management, prescribing controlled substances, opioids, addiction and substance abuse, and alternatives to opioids (various states including MA, CT, RI, NY, NH, NJ), as well as for those applying for prescriptive authority from MA Controlled Substance Registration.

Learning Objectives

• Review the role of opioids in pain management, including indications, limitations, and considerations for safe use
• Safely initiate, adjust, and discontinue opioid therapy in patients with acute or chronic pain
• Counsel patients on the safe use, storage, and disposal of opioid analgesics, including overdose reversal agents
• Create personalized pain management plans integrating both opioid and non-opioid therapies
