Taking the Dialogue to the Next Level: Facilitating Open Communication About Obesity

This activity is intended for clinicians in primary care, family medicine, pediatrics, and internal medicine.

  • Recognize obesity as a serious chronic illness that requires sustained weight management to mitigate adiposity-related complications and comorbidities
  • Use appropriate, non-judgmental language when discussing obesity with patients
  • Apply motivational interviewing techniques in the clinical setting to improve clinicians’ and patients’ comfort in discussions about obesity while eliciting information about patient’s weight loss goals, motivations, and state of change
  • Employ therapeutic communication strategies to develop patient-centered treatment plans for people with obesity
  • Use a holistic, evidence-based approach to obesity management to formulate individualized treatment plans that support sustainable weight management
  • Discuss the efficacy, safety, and best prescribing practices for long-term anti-obesity medication (AOM).

Please follow these instructions for evaluating and claiming continuing education credit for sessions you attend at this Pri-Med meeting:

1. You must scan your badge each morning upon arrival to verify your attendance. On your first day, the printing of your badge serves as your check-in scan for that day. Scanning your badge will allow you access to the evaluation system.

2. Download the Pri-Med Events – USA app or visit www.pri-med.com/BAL/eval by Tuesday, October 21, 2024to complete the session evaluations. Pri-Med staff will also be available to assist you with any questions you may have.

  • Enter your email address and badge number as listed on your badge.
  • Select the day and the session title, and complete the evaluation. 
  • Attest that you attended the conference by selecting "yes" from the drop-down menu, and then designate the type of credit you seek.

3. Receive your credit. View and print your certificate from the evaluation website or your Pri-Med.com account the next day. We do not print certificates at the conference.

    • DC/MD: The session "Creating Health Equity in Pain Management: Strategies for Bridging the Gap" is designed to satisfy CME/CE state licensure requirements (MD/PA/NP) on LGBTQ cultural competence and awareness in DC, as well as implicit bias for MD.

    • DC/MD/PA/VA/NY: The session "P.A.C.T.: Practical Approaches to Comprehensive Treatment of Pain: Parts 1-2" (3.5 hours) is designed to satisfy CME/CE state licensure requirements (MD/DO/PA/NP) on the identification of addiction or practices of prescribing/dispensing opioids/controlled substances, as well as training requirements for the MATE Act.
