Biography

Dr. Zahid Ahmad is a board-certified endocrinologist with specialized training in the clinical care and research of patients with lipid disorders. His clinical activities include leadership and direct patient care roles in the Parkland Health and Hospital Systems Lipid Clinic, the UT Southwestern Lipid/Metabolism Clinic, and the new UT Southwestern Familial Hypercholesterolemia Clinic. His NIH and American Heart Association funded research projects aim to understand the underlying causes and improve treatment for patients with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), familial chylomicronemia syndrome, and statin intolerance. Additionally, his collaboration with the FH Foundation (a patient-run group focused on advocacy and research) has led to improved insight into the current scope and health disparities of FH patients in the US.
