Biography
Dr. Conaty specializes in applying art history methods to enhance continuing medical education and clinical training. Her research demonstrates how visual analysis can improve diagnostic accuracy, clinical communication, and cultural awareness. In Academic Radiology (Feb. 2024), she and colleagues show how art historical techniques help radiology residents better detect diagnostic subtleties. In the Journal of Health Communication (May 2024), she explores how historical imagery of breast cancer reveals patient experience and healthcare inequities. Dr. Conaty holds leadership roles with the Health Humanities Consortium and the College of Physicians of Philadelphia’s Section on Medicine and the Arts. She also serves as editor of the “Historical Perspectives in Art” section for the Journal of Humanities in Rehabilitation (Emory University School of Medicine) and was a Medical Humanities Scholar in Residence at Penn State College of Medicine. Through her collaborations with medical educators, Dr. Conaty brings a unique interdisciplinary approach to CME, helping clinicians see—and think—more critically and compassionately.
