Biography

Joseph F. Fowler, Jr., MD is a nationally known dermatologist, recognized for his work in the field of rosacea, skin allergies and contact dermatitis. He has maintained a busy private practice for almost 30 years in Louisville. He is a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of Louisville and Assistant Clinical Professor in the Division of Occupational Medicine at the University of Kentucky, and is involved in teaching residents and medical students. He has been a past president of the American Contact Dermatitis Society, the Space Dermatology Foundation, and the Kentucky Dermatology Society. He is the president of the North American Contact Dermatitis Group. He is listed in Woodward and White’s "Best Doctors in America." Dr. Fowler has been an invited lecturer at many regional, national, and international medical conferences, including the annual conference of the American Academy of Dermatology since 1989. He is the author of over 160 scholarly publications and medical chapters and the co-author of “Fisher’s Contact Dermatitis” one of the most used dermatology textbooks. He is the medical director for several annual national conferences including the Caribbean Dermatology Symposium, the Hawaii Dermatology Seminar, and the Las Vegas Dermatology Seminar. Along with Dr. Jackson he is a team dermatologist for University of Louisville athletic teams. Dr. Fowler has served as principal investigator on multiple pharmaceutical research studies. He is a consultant in drug development for multiple dermatologic pharmaceutical companies around the world. Dr. Fowler lives in Louisville with his wife, Lynn. They are partners in Margaux Farm in Midway, KY., which breeds and races thoroughbreds. When not working, he enjoys tennis, music, and travel.
