Biography

Dr. Neil Gokal is senior medical director of clinical education and quality for OptumCare NV and supports the innovation lane under the Office of the Chief Medical Officer. He also serves as the inaugural associate program director of the Valley Health System Family Medicine Residency program, the largest program in the state and has graduated two classes thus far. He studied biomedical and biochemical engineering at the University of Southern California where he also worked with the local community and became fluent in Spanish. After a brief career on capitol hill as a health and legislative aid, he transitioned into healthcare and attended St Georges University School of Medicine. He completed his medical training with Atlantic Health Systems in affiliation with Mount Sinai with a certificate in Global Health. With this background he serves as executive chair for One World Surgery providing medical care to rural communities in the villages of the Dominican Republic and Honduras and recently deployed a virtual education outreach program to support physicians in these areas. Locally he serves as associate professor of Family Medicine at Roseman University, adjunct clinical faculty at UNLV School of Medicine, and oversees a clinical internship for advanced practice clinician students at Touro University Nevada in addition to serving on advisory boards. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and serves on the executive board of directors for the NV Academy of Family Physicians, as secretary of the Clark County Medical Society, and President of the NV Physician Wellness Coalition. The highlight of his professional life is developing relationships including spending time with colleagues, patients, residents, and students in training including medical, PA, and APRN students. He is faculty with The Clinician Experience Project and cofounded The Physician Coalition of Southern Nevada to strengthen the foundational connection amongst clinicians in Southern Nevada. Outside of the office, he enjoys running biking and swimming having completed several triathlons and half marathons and is an avid baker. He loves traveling the world with his family and is always in contemplation of the next adventure.
