Biography

COL Bonnie Hartstein, MD, MBA, MHA, FACEP is board certified in Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine and is an active duty officer having served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Dr. Hartstein started as a Medical Service Officer serving as the Administrator for the Department of OB-GYN at Walter Reed Army Hospital (WRAMC) in the early 1990’s. She attended Boston University School of Medicine on a Health Professions Scholarship and completed a pediatrics residency at WRAMC. She ran the Camp Casey US Army Health Clinic, South Korea, the Army’s largest free-standing clinic providing primary and urgent care to US Soldiers and family members living close to the Demilitarized Zone. COL Hartstein next served at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) as a Staff Pediatrician leading many humanitarian missions to Central America and participating in pediatric anemia research. She then completed an Emergency Medicine Residency at BAMC, subsequently deploying to Iraq as the 15th Sustainment Brigade Surgeon overseeing the medical care for over 5,000 Soldiers. Her experience includes: Deputy Chief of Clinical Services for the 10th Combat Support Hospital in Afghanistan; Chief, BAMC Pediatric Emergency Section; Department Chief, Family and Community Medicine. Dr. Hartstein completed an MBA/MHA through Baylor University and is currently the Director, Army Quality and Safety Center for the US Army Surgeon General. She oversees TJC regulatory compliance, medical malpractice case reviews, clinical adverse action program, quality metric development and tracking, credentials and privileging policy and root cause analysis support for the Army hospitals world-wide.
