Keith T. Kanel

Biography

Dr. Kanel is the Chief Medical Officer for the Pittsburgh Regional Health Initiative. He is an internal medicine physician with over 20 years of clinical and administrative experience in prominent academic medical centers and progressive integrated delivery systems. At PRHI, Dr. Kanel is medical director of projects in accountable care networks, patient-centered medical home transformation, hospital-based Lean healthcare training, health system economic modeling, integrating behavioral and physical health in primary care, and implementation of electronic health records systems. He is a current grantee of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. He was previously Chief of General Internal Medicine at Allegheny General Hospital, and served on the faculties of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Drexel University College of Medicine, and Carnegie Mellon H. John Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management. He received his MD from the University of Pittsburgh and his Masters in Healthcare Management from Harvard University.
