Biography

John W. Kitchens, MD, is a partner at Retina Associates of Kentucky, the largest retina practice in Kentucky. Dr Kitchens treats patients with both medical and surgical retinal disorders including wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachment. He trained in ophthalmology residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (2000-2003) and at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute for his fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery (2003-2004) and chief residency (2004-2005). Dr Kitchens has served various leadership positions in both state and national societies including the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS). Dr Kitchens has been an invited speaker at national and international conferences including AAO subspeciality day, the ASRS annual meeting, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute's 50th anniversary, and Euretina. Dr Kitchens has won 3 Rhett Buckler Surgical Video Awards (ASRS) for innovative surgical techniques. In his downtime, John enjoys spending time with his wife and their two children. His hobbies include exercise/fitness, photography and technology.
