Biography

Dr. Prathit Kulkarni is currently Assistant Chief of Medicine at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Houston, Texas. He is also Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Section of Infectious Diseases at Baylor College of Medicine, where Dr. Kulkarni also serves as Program Director for the Infectious Diseases fellowship program. Dr. Kulkarni completed all of his medical training at Baylor College of Medicine, including medical school, residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, chief residency in Internal Medicine, and fellowship in Infectious Diseases. In addition, between residency and fellowship, Dr. Kulkarni spent 2 years working at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as an Epidemic Intelligence Service officer. Projects at CDC included work related to the Ebola virus disease epidemic, an outbreak of meningococcal meningitis at a large university, and an investigation into a cluster of illnesses due to the toxic chemical methyl bromide. In his current clinical work, Dr. Kulkarni rounds on the inpatient Infectious Disease service and the inpatient general medicine service. He also works in the outpatient setting, treating persons with HIV, patients experiencing prolonged symptoms after COVID-19, and patients with general infectious disease conditions.
