Biography

Michelle Ledford is a Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in obesity medicine with more than eight years of experience caring for patients living with obesity. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Georgia State University in 2016 and became board-certified in obesity medicine through the Obesity Medicine Association in 2021. Michelle began her career in the bariatric space, where she spent seven years at Beltline Health in Atlanta caring for patients before and after bariatric surgery. During her time there, she helped develop and expand both the postoperative bariatric program and the practice’s obesity medicine program, ultimately serving as a lead obesity medicine nurse practitioner. Michelle currently practices obesity medicine at Knownwell in Sandy Springs, where she provides comprehensive, evidence-based care focused on the individual needs of each patient. She is also a member of the Lilly speaker bureau, where she participates in educational programs related to obesity treatment. Passionate about advancing obesity medicine and connecting healthcare professionals, Michelle is the Founder and President of the Georgia Obesity Society (GOS). Through GOS, she is dedicated to creating opportunities for education, collaboration, and networking among healthcare providers and allied health professionals while promoting evidence based, compassionate care for people living with obesity. Michelle is passionate about reducing the stigma surrounding obesity and empowering both providers and patients with the knowledge and tools needed to treat obesity as the complex, chronic disease that it is.
