Biography

Maia McCuiston, MD, is the founder and chief executive officer of The McCuiston Group Pediatrics & Lactation in Washington, DC. After obtaining a medical degree at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, Dr McCuiston subsequently completed her residency at the University of Michigan Health Systems in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dr McCuiston’s clinical interests include pediatric health, breastfeeding, lactation, and providing culturally competent care to her patients. In recent years, Dr McCuiston has been especially interested in the intersection of COVID-19 and child health, presenting on topics such as student health during back-to-school season and vaccinations. She was also the recipient of the Can You Imagine Me – Childhood Obesity Grant, a culturally tailored healthy eating and physical activity program for African American girls ages 8 to 10. Dr McCuiston is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics; an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant®; and a member of the National Medical Association. She currently sits on the advisory board for ElevateMeD.
