Biography

Dr. O'Connell is the Director of the Center for Heart Failure of the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute and Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine. Previously he served as Chair of the Department of Medicine at Wayne State University and at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He also served as Medical Director of cardiac transplant programs at Loyola University Medical Center and the UTAH cardiac Transplant Program in Salt Lake City. The author of more than 200 scientific publications, he has served as President of both the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation and the Association of Professors of Medicine.
