Biography

I am a Professor with Tenure in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, with joint appointments in the Department of Pediatrics and School of Nursing. I serve as Vice Chair of Research, Division Chief for the Division of Reproductive Sciences, and Chief of the Women’s HIV Service. As Chief of the Women’s HIV Service, I direct one of the largest clinical programs for women living with HIV/AIDS (~ 1,500 patients). I have a successful foundation in project leadership through my current role as the Principal Investigator (PI) for the HRSA-funded Ryan White Care Act Part C program, an HIV care and treatment program for adults living in Miami-Dade County. I have successfully administered this project which has been continuously funded since 1990. I also serve as Co-PI for the Family Care Program (Part D), a program to provide clinical care and improved access for women, adolescents, and children living with or at risk for HIV. I am currently the Principal Investigator for a Department of Justice funded project- An Enhanced THRIVE Model of Care for Survivor Mothers and Infants to provide trauma-informed, survivor-centered perinatal services for survivor mothers and their infants. This project utilizes a community health worker approach to provide social support and guidance specifically for survivor mothers and their infants.
