Biography

Dr. Prothrow-Stith currently serves as Associate Dean for Faculty Development as well as Director and Professor of the Division of Public Health Practice at the Harvard School of Public Health, where she is also Director of its newly-designated Center for Public Health Preparedness. Dr. Prothrow-Stith is the former Commissioner of Public Health for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, where she established the first office of violence prevention in a Department of Public Health. In 1995, Dr. Prothrow-Stith was appointed by President Clinton to the National Commission on Crime Control and Prevention. She is the co-author with Howard Spivak of a new book Murder Is No Accident: Understanding and Preventing Youth Violence in America.
