Biography

Dr. Rao, a family physician, is Director of Undergraduate Education in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. In addition, he's an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the University's School of Medicine, and is Director of Medical Informatics at UPMC-St. Margaret Hospital in Pittsburgh. He also serves as Associate Editor of the ACP Journal Club of the American College of Physicians, and as an editorial board member and Acquisitions Editor of the American Academy of Family Physicians' home study course for its members. Dr. Rao's chief areas of interest in the technology area are handheld computing and the use of Web-based learning tools. He has published research papers in both areas and received grants from the National Library of Medicine Integrated Advanced Information Management System for the development of a Web-based learning program for third-year medical students based in community practices. Among Dr. Rao's many publications is a textbook, Primary Care Management: Cases and Discussions, chapters in two other textbooks, clinical and educational research articles, and evidence-based medicine reviews.
