Christopher Recknor

Biography

Christopher Recknor, MD is Medical Director of United Osteoporosis Centers in Gainesville, Georgia. He is also the founder of the Center for Advanced Research and Education (CARE) and of IONmed Systems, both in Gainesville. He is board certified as a Clinical Densitometrist and a Clinical Peripheral Densitometrist. Dr. Recknor is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research, the International Society for Clinical Densitometry, and the National Osteoporosis Foundation. Dr. Recknor has developed several programs and tools to aid in assessment of fracture risk and in treating low bone mass, most notably, the Bone Safety Evaluation (BSE). The BSE is a bone health clinical assessment tool, and is integrated into to a bone health registry which enables comprehensive outcomes tracking on many bone health outcome measures. In addition to the BSE, Dr. Recknor has developed the “Stand Tall” rehabilitation program, the Fracture Risk Assessment Protocol, the Osteoporosis Medication Adherence Questionnaire, and the “FallFrac” screening method. He has acted as Investigator for over 50 clinical trials, and has published or presented over 40 articles, abstracts, posters, and presentations. His work has appeared in journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Bone, Osteoporosis International, Clinical Rheumatology and others.
