Biography

A native of Okinawa, Dr. Shimabukuro has studied and practiced medicine in the United States for the past 15 years and has worked in other disaster-struck countries, including Burma and Thailand. She joined a disaster relief effort led by the Japanese Pediatric Emergency Society. Later she was recruited to join the recovery effort led by Team Impact Japan, working closely with the Central Japanese Government. She finished her medical education and completed her training in Pediatrics at Loma Linda University. Currently she is finishing her fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at Mattel Children's Hospital at UCLA.
