Biography

Dr. Shivkumar serves as the director of the UCLA Cardiac Arrhythmia Center & EP Programs in Los Angeles, CA. His field of specialization is interventional cardiac electrophysiology and he leads a group at UCLA that is involved in providing state of the art care and developing innovative techniques, with a major focus on cardiac neurobiology research. Dr. Shivkumar’s research relates to mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmias in humans, including the role of the autonomic nervous system in arrhythmias. The UCLA Neurocardiology Research Center of Excellence was established as the research arm of the Arrhythmia Center in 2014. His group is actively involved in human mechanistic studies, development of new intellectual property, and medical technology for cardiovascular therapeutics. He serves as a section editor of Heart Rhythm, associate editor of Trends in CV Medicine, and is on the editorial boards of the journals PACE, JACC Clinical EP, and IPEJ. He is a peer reviewer for several cardiology journals and serves as a peer reviewer for the NIH in evaluating cardiac arrhythmia research.
