Biography

Cardiovascular medicine expert Lana Tsao, MD is the director of St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center’s Advanced Heart Failure Service. Before joining St. E’s, Dr. Tsao served as an attending cardiologist at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City, a world-renowned center for the treatment of heart-failure patients. Previously, she served as director of Clinical Heart Failure Services at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where she was instrumental in developing their advanced heart failure clinic. Dr. Tsao is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. Her areas of expertise include treating patients with heart failure, cardiac transplantation and valvular heart disease. She has a special interest in treating women with heart disease. Her training includes a fellowship in cardiology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, a fellowship in congestive heart failure and cardiac transplantation at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center also in New York, and a research fellowship in medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital-East in Charlestown, MA. Dr. Tsao completed her residency in medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center after receiving her medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. She has held academic appointments at Harvard Medical School and at Columbia University. Dr. Tsao has also been the principal investigator for a number of high profile heart failure research studies and has won numerous awards. She continues to be an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, the Journal of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation and the Annals of Internal Medicine.
