Biography

Eugene E. Wright, Jr., MD, is the medical director of performance improvement at the Charlotte Area Health Education Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is also a consulting associate in the Department of Medicine at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Wright received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Duke University Hospital. Dr. Wright is board certified in internal medicine and is licensed to practice medicine by the state of North Carolina. Dr. Wright has over 40 years of clinical experience as a private practitioner, academic clinician and educator, medical administrator, rural physician in southeastern North Carolina, and volunteer physician. Dr. Wright is a member of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and has served on the planning committee of the ADA’s Clinical Conference since 2009. He serves as the inaugural chair of the ADA Primary Care Interest Group and as a member of the ADA/American Heart Association Know Diabetes by Heart science advisory group. Dr. Wright is an associate editor of Clinical Diabetes and has served on advisory and editorial boards for several journals, including Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics, and as a content reviewer for UpToDate.
