Biography

Dr. Ziegelstein is the Executive Vice Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Dr. Ziegelstein is a cardiologist whose principal research focus is on the effect of depression and emotional stress on patients with heart disease. Dr. Ziegelstein joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1993 and served as the director of the residency program in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for approximately 10 years. He is well-known for role as a teacher of medical students, medical residents, fellows, and faculty, and is engaged in medical education scholarly work in addition to his cardiovascular research. Dr. Ziegelstein received his medical degree in 1986 from Boston University. He completed his internship and residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital - Osler Medical Program and was an Assistant Chief of Service on the Osler Medical Service the following year. He completed his fellowship in cardiology at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
