Iowa CME/CE Requirements

(2) hours on the US CDC guideline for prescribing opioids for chronic pain, including recommendations on limitations on dosages and the length of prescriptions, risk factors for abuse, and nonopioid and nonpharmacologic therapy options (for licensees who have prescribed opioids during the previous license period);
(2) hours on end-of-life care.

(8) hours on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders, including the appropriate clinical use of all FDA-approved drugs for the treatment of a substance use disorder. This is a one-time requirement for all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders), beginning with DEA initial or renewal registrations starting June 27, 2023.

(2) hours that address the current CDC prescribing guidelines, including chronic pain management, dosing recommendations, length of prescriptions, risk factors for abuse, and non-opioid on nonpharmacologic options;
ARNPs supervising fluoroscopy during the three-year renewal cycle must take CE to include initial and annual radiological safety courses.

(8) hours on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders, including the appropriate clinical use of all FDA-approved drugs for the treatment of a substance use disorder. This is a one-time requirement for all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders), beginning with DEA initial or renewal registrations starting June 27, 2023.
