Workshop: AI Practical Tips

Description

This session will give attendees a practical, hands-on opportunity to explore Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools that may be useful in patient care. The session will begin with a brief overview of what AI is, its expanding role in healthcare, and the potential benefits, risks, and limitations clinicians should be aware of. Participants will then trial several AI tools that can support clinical practice, such as interpreting lab results, generating differential diagnoses, and answering treatment questions. Additional examples will highlight tools that streamline administrative tasks, including ambient virtual scribes, clinical correspondence, and AI inbox management. The session will emphasize the importance of clinical oversight, human validation, and appropriate use of these tools within patient care.

Learners are encouraged to bring clinical questions and a laptop or tablet to try them out.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the basics of how artificial intelligence (AI) was developed and how it functions
  • Utilize a variety of AI websites and apps to address clinical needs, including diagnostic and treatment questions, understanding medical publications, and other tools AI can support in the clinical setting
  • Develop confidence and competence in using these tools on a daily basis to augment patient care
