Overview

Managing perimenopause and menopause can be complex, with symptoms that impact quality of life and comorbidities that influence therapeutic choices. In this session, you’ll review evidence-based pharmacologic options for managing vasomotor symptoms, mood and sleep disturbances, and genitourinary syndrome of menopause. Learn how to individualize therapy based on patient preferences, risk profiles, and contraindications, while staying current with evolving guidance on hormone therapy, nonhormonal agents, and emerging treatments.

Learning Objectives

  • Compare and contrast hormonal and nonhormonal pharmacologic options for managing perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms
  • Identify patient factors that guide the selection, dosing, and duration of hormone therapy, including cardiovascular, thrombotic, and breast cancer risks
  • Apply current guideline recommendations to the use of systemic and local estrogen therapies for vasomotor and genitourinary symptoms
  • Evaluate the role of emerging nonhormonal therapies, including SSRIs/SNRIs, gabapentin, oxybutynin, and neurokinin receptor antagonists, in symptom management
