Dr. David Albert is the Director of Community Health at the Colubmbia College of Dental Medicine and Associate Professor of Clinical Dentistry and Public Health at Columbia University. The integration of evidence-based practice into the health care system is one of his primary interests. He has been a principal investigator or a co-investigator on tobacco cessation grants for over 18 years. These include grants from the National Cancer Institute, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the New York State Department of Health, and the American Legacy Foundation. His teaching, research and practice experience have enabled him to establish a career in public health education and research and to become a leader in tobacco cessation dissemination. He leads the New York Presbyterian Hospital (NYPH) Performing Provider System (PPS) tobacco cessation program. The program is funded by New York State and is integrating tobacco cessation services into primary and behavioral health services within the NYPH Ambulatory Care Network and the New York State Psychiatric Institute. The comprehensive program is training clinicians, hiring behavioral health tobacco cessation counselors and working to reduce tobacco use in the community.
