Biography

Dr. Rola El-Serag has been the medical director of the Women Veteran's Health Program at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas, since 2004. In this role, she has served as an expert educator in Women's Health within the Department of Veterans Affairs, both locally and nationally. Her role as an advocate for female veteran health has focused on Women Veteran program development, improvement in health care quality, expansion of health care services, reduction in gender disparities, and institutional culture change through education of employees and patients on women's health issues and gaps in care. As faculty in the Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine since 2004, she has served primarily as an educator in internal medicine and women's health, teaching fellow faculty, residents, and medical students. Dr. El-Serag has received multiple teaching and clinical awards, including the Norton Rose Fulbright Faculty Excellence Award and Physician of the Year. She received her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed residency in internal medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in 2002.
