Biography

Mabel Labrada, MD, joined the Miami VA Medical Center after completing her residency in Internal Medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami. Since then, Dr. Labrada has been a positive innovative force on the Hospitalist Service. In addition to working full-time as Chief Hospitalist, she spearheaded the Quality Improvement/Patient Safety Chief Residency Program and has been a primary mentor to the Chief Residents and the house staff rotating on their QI/Patient Safety rotations. Dr. Labrada has started many initiatives and projects that have improved clinical care for Veterans and has changed the work place environment and the way medicine is practiced. She is Lean Six Sigma certified and continues to work with many disciplines in the medical center to improve processes. Her projects as well as those she has mentored have been presented at national conferences and have received awards. She continues to lead operational improvement efforts in patient safety and quality improvement, fostering clinical research and supporting professional development in the staff and trainees.
