Biography

Dr. Newport serves as Director of Women's Reproductive Mental Health at the University of Miami and as Medical Director of the health & Recovery Center, an inpatient dual diagnosis treatment unit at Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital. He completed a graduate theological degree before receiving his medical degree from the University of South Carolina followed by both a general psychiatry residency and master's degree in clinical research at Emory University. His awards include the NARSAD Independent Investigator Award, Laughlin Fellowship from the American College of Psychiatrists, Lilly Research Fellowship from the American Psychiatric Association, Lilly Fellowship from the Society of Biological Psychiatry, and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Distinguished Physician Alumnus Award, in addition to teaching awards from both the University of Miami and Emory University Schools of Medicine. His publications have appeared in JAMA, American Journal of Psychiatry, American Journal of Obsetrics & Gynecology, Neurology, Biological Psychiatry, Neuropsychopharmacology, Bipolar Disorders, Pediatrics, British Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, etc.
